Auditions
The Allegro dance season is set yearly by Artistic Director, Janne Dean and the Allegro Board of Directors. The season begins in April and continues
through the bedtime ballet performance at The Grand in Wausau in early March.
With a substantial grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin,
Allegro Dance Theater is looking forward to the 2008-2009 production of Beauty and the Beast.
Allegro dancers are chosen in a yearly audition. They must be enrolled in a minimum
of two ballet technique classes a week and be between the ages of 10 and 18. Dancers 12
and older must be on pointe unless medical reasons prohibit it.
Dancers chosen for Allegro Dance Theater participate in classes and rehearsals every Saturday
from 10:00 - 2:00 during the school year. In addition, a summer intensive consisting of class and rehearsal,
is scheduled in late August for four weeks for four hours a day. Saturday and summer classes
are held at a dance studio between Wausau and Mosinee.
Allegro Dance Theater is nonprofit and fundraisers provide a part of the operating budget for the
troupe. Parents are expected to participate in at least three fundraisers during the year.
In addition to the ballet bedtime stories performed yearly at The Grand, Allegro is invited to
perform at local festivals, and at schools throughout Wisconsin. This season's performances
include Peter and the Wolf in Stevens Point and Green Bay,
Beauty and the Beast at The Grand in Wausau and in Rhinelander,
and dance demonstrations in five schools in the Wausau School District. This past summer,
Allegro performed at the Renaissance Festival in Wausau and Festival Aurora Borealis in Minocqua.
